In 1938, the sky is lit up with an aurora borealis light storm, seen all across Europe. According to many, the phenomenon portends war. At the same time, a woman is brutally murdered in the outskirts of Maribor.

Thus begins Severni sij. Marjetica (Northern Lights. Marjetica). The play, directed by Primož Ekart, is based on Drago Jančar's acclaimed 1984 novel Severni sij (Northern Lights). Ekart explores the roots of violence, both in intimate relationships and society.

The production features an original score by Silence, which consists of six piano pieces. The compositions were performed by Silence's long-time collaborator, pianist Sašo Vollmaier. The play also includes a song, Nordlicht (Northern Lights), sung in German by Benko.
