In Dekle noči (Girl in the Night), the life of an alienated kleptomaniac gets unexpectedly complicated after he steals a bike from a girl who believes herself to be a real crime-fighting superhero. The film, Luka Marčetić’s directorial debut, stars Lara Wolf Završnik, Urban Kuntarič, Marko Mandić, and Nina Valič.
Girl in the Night is as easy to watch as it is difficult to define. It is a homicidal love story, a deadpan comedy d’auteur, and the first Slovene superhero movie. It is simultaneously disturbing and endearing, stony-faced and playful, restrained and outlandish.
To capture these extremes, Silence combined synthesizers with unexpected, seemingly incompatible acoustic elements. The tracks, predominantly electronic, are interspersed with dulcimers, zithers, cellos, harps, and other acoustic instruments. The synths are cold and menacing, whereas the acoustic elements provide warmth and mischief. The approach is especially evident in The End Credits Theme, an epic cocktail of synthesizers and orchestra. The orchestral parts were performed by the RTV Slovenia Symphony Orchestra. The piece was recorded at Radio Slovenia’s Studio 26.
The duet also wrote and recorded a song, Tat (The Thief), for the film’s promotional campaign.
